  • Jojoba Oil and Healing: A Testimony

There are so many reasons to love this little golden oil known as Jojoba. The most obvious is what it does for our skin. But I'm also in love with its backstory. Everybody has a backstory and jojoba oil is no exception. You see, the jojoba plant itself is a lot like you and me; determined, tenacious and able to withstand some pretty tough things. Not only does this plant survive in climates that are so dry and unforgiving (think the desert) most living things wouldn't make it, out of that harshness comes a nut that once opened up has the distinct ability to heal. How beautiful is that? Some of the healing benefits of Jojoba:
    • Moisture without greasiness. Jojoba oil a humectant so it seals moisture into your skin. Super important if you're prone to dryness.  And because jojoba oil is so similar to the sebum our bodies produce naturally, people who've done studies on jojoba found that after putting it on, our brains send out a kind of  "all clear" signal to our bodies letting our skin know 'everything's good here' so it doesn't produce more sebum, which can cause greasiness and acne.
    • It has a built-in, natural form of vitamin E and since vitamin E has antioxidant properties, it can help keep oxidative stress at bay. What is oxidative stress? It's what causes cars to rust and fruits and veggies to go bad. Pollutants and the environment they're in ruins them because there's nothing to protect them. That's what can happen to your skin over time if you don't protect it.
    •  It's noncomedogenic, hypoallergenic and has anti-inflammatory properties so generally it won't build up on the skin or irritate it which can help if you're acne, eczema or psoriasis prone.

But remember everybody's different. What works for you may not work for someone else. Overall though, jojoba oil has proven itself to be the real deal. You've gotta be if you've gone through what it did and still has something special to offer the world. And no matter how painful our own journeys are, we all have something to offer. You might not think your story matters but it does. There's somebody out there needing to hear it.  And somebody who will heal because of it. Amazing what an unassuming plant can do. Amazing how resilient we really are.
